Project Description

In the rural Sierra region, long ambulance wait times, staffing shortages, and limited access to medical training place lives at risk. The Hybrid EMS Training Program is an ambitious, community-rooted initiative designed to change that. By expanding local access to high-quality emergency medical training, this project empowers residents to become lifesaving responders—whether through volunteer fire departments, search and rescue teams, ski patrol, or careers in EMS and healthcare.

Through a flexible blend of online learning and in-person skill practice, the program lowers barriers like distance, cost, and rigid schedules. It also prioritizes equity by offering scholarships and designing inclusive, culturally responsive curriculum that reflects the region’s diversity.

At its heart, this project is about local people saving local lives. It builds educational and economic pathways in places where opportunities are often scarce, while also strengthening community resilience in the face of emergencies and disasters. By 2028, the program aims to graduate over 150 trained responders, increase workforce diversity, and lay the foundation for a lasting EMS training infrastructure in the Sierra. It’s not just a training program—it’s a blueprint for empowering rural communities from the inside out.
